Katherine was christened last Spring wearing an heirloom length silk gown from our Jessica Silk Christening Collection. We were so excited when Katherine’s mom, Ha, shared beautiful photos of her daughter from the day of the christening and from Katherine’s photography session. Ha also suggested a few tips for other parents to keep in mind as they start planning their child’s christening, such as waiting until you arrive at the church to change your child into their christening outfit to ensure their outfit is not wrinkly from riding in a car seat. Hope you enjoy Katherine’s story as much as we did!
Katherine certainly looked beautiful in her Jessica Gown and Headband! What did you like about the design of the Jessica Collection?
I love the classic look of the ivory silk gown combined with the delicacy of the netting. The intricate detail of the hand-sewn pearls, rosettes and bows added luxurious touches without being overly fussy.
Why did you opt for a longer gowns opposed to a shorter dress?
A longer gown appealed to me because it was more formal.
Do you have any christening traditions within your family or traditions within your church?
A baptism is a very important event in the Catholic Church and we were happy to follow the traditional ceremony.
Do you have any suggestions for other parents as they start planning a special event for their little one, such a christening or birthday celebration?
It was nice to have my bilingual cousin as the photographer so that he could communicate with everyone since the group was an international mix. Katherine is Vietnamese on her mother’s side, while her father is British. In regards to planning, I would suggest changing the baby into the christening gown at the church so that it does not get crushed by the car seat. Another recommendation is to have a formal photography session with the baby in the christening gown before the day of the event. I had to have the gown cleaned after the baptism luncheon and the photo session kept getting pushed back. We finally did the sitting a few months later and luckily the gown still fit.
Looking back, did you have a favorite moment from Katherine’s christening?
We were very pleased the gown fit so beautifully – Katherine looked like an angel. As Katherine is the youngest member of a huge extended family, we were honored to have 30 of our family and close friends attend the ceremony and lunch afterwards.
